Fe Teresa de Jesus-McCarthy
Studied and got her degree in medicine at the University of the Philippines, College of Medicine in Manila, Philippines in 1966. She is an American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Diplomate since 1980 and a member of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the American Fertility Association, the American Medical Association and the Medical Society State of New York.
Her first professional experience was as a rotating intern at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila, Philippines in 1965-1966. She then became an OB/GYN Resident there until 1968, when she left to be a Resident in General Practice at the Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield, OH. In 1969 she became OB/GYN Resident for Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, OH until 1972.
During 1972 and 1973 she was an Emergency Room Physician for St. Anthony’s Hospital in Warwick, NY, Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY and St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.
In 1973 she opened her Private OB/GYN Practice in Latham, and was and continues to be privileged at the Bellevue Woman’s Hospital in Niskayuna, NY and St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady, NY.
Became a registered Nurse in 1976 at Fulton- Montgomery CC in Johnstown, NY, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at SUNY in Binghamton, Decker School of Nursing in 1996 and a Nurse- Midwife in 2003 at SUNY in Stony Brook.
Her first experience as a professional was as a School Nurse Substitute, for B.O.C.E.S. Substitute Service in Johnstown, NY from 1976 through 1986.
She then owned and managed Menge Truck Service in Mayfield, NY for two years. After this she became a Member of the Decker School of Nursing Curriculum Committee in 1991-1992 at SUNY Binghamton, NY.
During all this time, starting in 1964 and up to 1992 she was a staff nurse and evening charge nurse in the OB-GYN Department of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, in Amsterdam, NY. During this year she changed hospitals to work as a staff nurse at the Saratoga Hospital, in Saratoga Springs, NY.
In 1993 she joined the US Army Reserve Nurse Corps-348th at the General Hospital, Surgical Unit, Post-Op ICU where she performed Physical Exams and was the Immunization Coordinator, DNA Acquisition Team for the 8th Brigade, and continues to work there nowadays.
During 2002-2003 she got clinical training with Patricia Crane, CNM at Darnell Army Hospital in Ft. Hood, TX, and also with Dr. Altman and Yvette Riley, CNM at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.
In 2004-2005 she went to Wuerzburg, Germany to be a Certified Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner at WMEDDAC. When she came back, in November 2005 she joined our practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner.
As a professional, she is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, the New York State Midwifery Association, the Reserve Officers Association and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. She has been awarded the Sigma Theta Tau (National Nursing Honor Society), the Archille Hall Nursing Scholarship and the National Nursing Research Grant.
